Ellen was made for Channel 4 by first time writer, Sarah Quintrell and first time director, Mahalia Belo.   

The film won a Bafta for Breakthrough Talent and a Bafta Cymru for Best Film; it won the Broadcast Award for Best Single Drama, the Writers Guild Award for Best Screenplay, and the Prix Italia for Best Drama.
